Newport Carnival Town-Centre Stage 2024-2025

For Newport Carnival in 2024 and 2025, the 8m x 6m trailer stage was installed directly on a mini-roundabout in the town centre. The unusual position made road-closure timing, vehicle approach and an immediate move into the High Street more important than the stage build itself.

Newport Carnival needed a main stage for live acts, community performances and awards after the procession. With an audience spread along the High Street, the larger 8m x 6m format gave the programme a visible, covered focal point and enough working room for the changing activities.

The 2025 setup added three rear event banners, giving the stage a stronger carnival identity without changing its road footprint. Sound was provided by separate technical suppliers, while HeathTech remained responsible for the stage and coordinated the working layout with the sound crew and stage manager.

Working with the conditions on the ground.

The stage position occupied a working mini-roundabout in the centre of Newport. Tight surrounding streets left little room to wait or turn, and the trailer could not enter until the High Street road closure was formally in place. Arriving too early would block live traffic; arriving too late would reduce the setup time available to the wider event team.

Delivery and setup

A practical route from arrival to show-ready.

The vehicle and trailer waited close to the town centre, then moved immediately once the road closure became active at around 6am. That approach put the stage on its mark before other event vehicles and infrastructure filled the High Street. The trailer stage was built in approximately two hours, after which the sound teams and stage manager could complete their work around a fixed layout.

HeathTech stayed on site through the event to coordinate the stage interface and began collection after the programme, at around 7pm. The same road-conscious sequence was used for both the 2024 and 2025 carnivals.

The result

The stage turned a small piece of road infrastructure into a clear town-centre performance venue for two consecutive carnivals. Its 8m width gave acts and presentations room to work, while the controlled early-morning move allowed the build to take place without compromising the live-road boundary or the event's public opening schedule.
